Adrian Flux Subaru Racing’s Ashley Sutton wrote his name into the history books at Brands Hatch as he achieved a lifelong dream, winning the 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. In a nail-biting climax around the famous Grand Prix circuit, the 23-year-old became the youngest driver to win the coveted crown since John Fitzpatrick in 1966. Arriving at the Kent venue, a favourite on the calendar for Ashley, holding a ten-point advantage over Colin Turkington, his pursuit of a maiden title got off to a strong start in qualifying. Despite carrying 75kgs of success ballast on-board his Subaru Levorg, Ashley benefitted [...]

Emotional Rollercoaster

By |2018-05-10T09:39:46+01:00September 22nd, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

Silverstone was always going to be a struggle for the Adrian Flux Subaru Racing guys. This is their weakest track of the season. The car has shown phenomenal pace over the past few rounds allowing Ashley to maximise every opportunity. He hasn’t stepped off the podium since Oulton Park but that all changed at Silverstone after coming so close during race two. It’s no hidden secret that Subaru had their boost levels reduced prior to Silverstone, this all plays apart to it being their weakest circuit on the calendar. But when there are only four real corners which is followed [...]

Sutton Takes Championship Lead

By |2018-05-10T09:08:23+01:00August 30th, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship headed to corby for rounds 22, 23 and 24 at Rockingham. Last year Ashley showed some strong pace in the MG and was looking forward to attacking here again. But heading into the weekend he described it as the 'unknown'. Qualifying was going to be tricky as this was the first time Ashley was going into the session with 66kg onboard. It was a new experience for himself and the engineering team this year. The lap was described as a 'dig deep' kind of lap. He didn't leave anything on the table and maximised the [...]

Sutton shines in Scotland

By |2018-05-10T09:11:26+01:00August 15th, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship headed north of the boarder to Knockhill. Over the years this hasn't been a strong track for Ash, despite how much he enjoys tackling the tight twisty circuit, the results haven't really shown.  Showing good pace throughout the Saturday's free practice sessions in both the wet and dry conditions, none of that prepared him for the mixed conditions during qualifying. The track state was very wet after some heavy showers just before qualifying. Ashley was top of the time-sheets for the majority of the qualifying session, then a red flag was brought out and the [...]

Overall a Positive Snetterton Weekend

By |2018-05-10T09:22:10+01:00July 31st, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

The summer break had come to an end and we headed to Snetterton for Rounds 16,17 and 18. After a strong performance at the tyre test a few weeks prior to the meeting Ashley showed there was the potential in the package he had to collect another strong points haul.    Heading into Qualifying the main goal for Ashley was to try and keep it on the front two rows as he felt he didn't quite have the ultimate pace to beat the ballast free Honda of Goff. It was a tough session having his fastest lap taken away due to track [...]

Sutton shines at croft

By |2018-05-10T09:43:08+01:00June 12th, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

"Croft was a perfect weekend for me and a great step forward for the team, having us all inside the top ten in Qualifying. I went into croft with a positive mind set, it has been my strongest track over past few years and it was always going to suit our car. Saturday showed we found the sweet spot in the wet weather conditions topping every classification. Despite having a great day it didn't end how everyone would of wanted, we was unfortunately involved in the qualifying nightmare where we saw a ten car pile-up. The team did a sterling job and worked late into the [...]

Mega weekend at Oulton Park

By |2018-05-10T09:45:03+01:00May 22nd, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

Oulton Park hasn't been a kind circuit to Ashley over the years. It has always been a challenging race weekend at Oulton but this was a turning point for himself, the team (BMR) and his Subaru Levorg GT.  Ashley managed to wrap up qualifying on the third row with P6 whilst carrying 21kg of success ballast. The aim for the weekend was to finish all three races inside the top 5. This was a big ask as the grid is the most competitive it has been for many years in the BTCC. Heading into race one Ash had his work cut [...]

Thruxton was points collecting

By |2018-05-10T09:46:52+01:00May 8th, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

Heading to Thruxton the main aim for Ashley was to score some good solid points and extract as much as he can from the car. It has been a tough opening start to the season by Ashley has been the one who has stood out from the crowd with his superb race craft helping him fight his way to the front.  "Thruxton was never going to be a strong track for myself and the team. There are a few reasons behind this theory, those being that the track naturally suits FWD cars as it is a lot easier to live [...]

Donington Park rollercoaster

By |2018-05-10T09:52:57+01:00April 18th, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

"Donington was for sure an emotional roller coaster regarding the events on Saturday, going from the bottom of the time-sheets in Free Practice Two to breaking the lap record in Qualifying and then back to the bottom come the end of play on Saturday. It is fair to say I lived the life of a yo-yo! "Sunday was a fresh start for myself and I set my own personal goal to get back in the top five, maybe even a podium come race three. I feel that we definitely over achieved in race one which meant that we grabbed that [...]

Brands Hatch is one to forget

By |2018-05-10T09:51:56+01:00April 4th, 2017|Race Reports|0 Comments

"Not the start that we as a team would have liked coming into the 2017 season. Brands Hatch is most definitely one to put behind us and move on, we now need to hone in on the problems that occurred throughout the opening round before Donington.” he continued “On more of a positive note I feel that I showed some good potential in the racing but unfortunately I was always stuck in the thick of it all to make any real progress. The team did a sterling job all weekend behind the scenes it’s just a shame the results weren’t [...]
